The Bikepacking Roots non-profit organization shared a weekend of bikepacking knowledge about the actual organization of Bikepacking Roots, plus knowledge of the GAP trail, and tons of extras. We biked and camped along the GAP (Great Allegheny Passage) which spans 150 miles from Pittsburgh PA to Cumberland MD. Together with the C&O towpath, the GAP is a part of a 335 mile route between Pittsburgh and Washington D.C.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed, just by showing up, to this fulfilled weekend event. I had the chance to see many of my friends from the Pittsburgh PA area again and meet new people from Baltimore Maryland to Erie PA. I am very grateful for the opportunity to attend and meet everyone.
I traveled from NYC by Amtrak train, loaded bike, and a friendly carpool rider I met along the way named Becca. We met in Confluence and camped in a large field as our main meeting place for the weekend. Of course I took photos of people with my iPhone mostly and did my best to list and remember everyone’s name. I even document instagram handles so if I do share photos and video I can tag the riders. This is always a great way to share my enthusiasm for bikepacking and the cycling community in general. Not only was there guided daily group rides for any level of cyclist, but also seminars and a vendor day where I displayed my Concrete Revolt merchandise. The entire trip was funded by donations as this was a fundraiser event.
I’d love to say more, but to keep it brief, this is one well maintained bike trail and a well organized event! It’s a joy to ride and I’d recommend to anyone to check it out first hand. You can take the Amtrak to Pittsburgh, just make sure you buy the $20 bike pass to store your assembled bike in the luggage car.
